New Bern woman charged in drug overdose death in Pamlico County

PAMLICO COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A New Bern woman is accused of giving drugs to a man who later died from an overdose.

Pamlico County deputies have charged Stephanie Nelson with death by distribution.

Back on February 10, 2024, deputies say they were called to a home on Old Bay River Road outside of Gransboro for a man’s death.

Warrants say Nelson sold fentanyl to Damian Nobles, causing his death. An obituary said the Bayboro man was 22 years old.

The 24-year-old Nelson remains in jail on a $500,000 secured bond.

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) – A man has been charged with the overdose death of a woman last summer in Morehead City.

Morehead City police say Bryan Mace was arrested last Thursday on charges of death by distribution, possession with the intent to sell and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, and delivery of a Schedule II controlled substance.

Police say Kaitlyn Curry died from an overdose last July. An arrest warrant said Mace delivered fentanyl to the 36-year-old woman

Mace was already in jail for related drug charges. His bond was increased by $750,000 due to these additional charges.

Wilson County man charged in overdose death

WILSON COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A Wilson County man is behind bars charged with an overdose death.

The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35-year-old Devonty Pitt and charged him with felony aggravated death by distribution of controlled substances.

The sheriff’s office began investigating back in May when deputies and detectives responded to the overdose death of 33-year-old Cierra Parker Barnes.

Investigators say it was determined that Pitt supplied the toxic narcotics that led to the fatal overdose.

Pitt has had several previous possession with intent to sell and distribute charges for substances such as heroin and cocaine and is also a convicted felon due to these charges.

He is in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under no bond.
